Readout of the Secretary-General’s telephone conversation with H.E. Mr. Ali Ahmed Karti, Foreign Minister of Sudan

The Secretary-General and H.E. Mr. Ali Ahmed Karti, Foreign Minister of Sudan spoke about the crisis between Sudan and South Sudan. The Secretary-General emphasized that the immediate priority was to de-escalate the situation on the ground while noting that there was no military solution to the conflict.  
The Secretary-General urged the Government of Sudan to demonstrate maximum restraint at this crucial time and to consider holding a presidential summit immediately to resolve the current situation.
