The Secretary-General met today, 29 January 2012, with H.E. Mr. Francois Bozizé, President of the Central African Republic.
The Secretary-General welcomed progress made in the disarmament and demobilization of former combatants in the country and pledged continued UN support towards the successful completion of the DDR process within the overall context of the ongoing peacebuilding process in the country. He encouraged the President to pursue inclusive and consensual consultations towards sustainable peace consolidation, which could help create and improve conditions for socio-economic recovery. The Secretary-General also reiterated the commitment of the United Nations Peacebuilding Commission to continue to work with the CAR Government to define their joint engagement for the coming years.
