In response to questions asked about the abduction of schoolchildren in Nigeria, the Spokesman has the following to say:
The Secretary-General strongly condemns the 17 February attack on the Government Science College Kagara in Nigeria’s north-central region which resulted in the death of one student and the abduction of other school children, relatives and staff. The Secretary-General expresses his deepest condolences to the bereaved and his sympathies to the affected families.
The Secretary-General reiterates that attacks on schools and other educational facilities are abhorrent and unacceptable.
The Secretary-General urges the Nigerian authorities to spare no efforts in rescuing those abducted and holding to account those responsible for this act.
