Juan Gabriel Valdés, adviser to the Secretary-General of the United Nations, traveled to Quito on 29-30 October 2019. The visit followed a request to the United Nations by the Government of Ecuador, indigenous organizations and different social sectors for support in reaching an understanding about how to bridge their differences.
 
Ambassador Valdés met President Lenín Moreno, members of the Government and social leaders, whom he congratulated for halting the escalation of social tension experienced in early October through a constructive attitude and willingness to engage in dialogue.  He urged the parties to continue to bring their positions closer together and avoid situations that hinder dialogue. The objective of all national actors must be to reach consensual solutions that benefit  the entire country and facilitate governance, inclusive dialogue and prosperity. 
 
The United Nations reiterates its readiness to accompany an inclusive and nationally-led dialogue process that contributes to the fulfillment of the goals of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

Juan Gabriel Valdés, asesor del Secretario General de las Naciones Unidas, viajó a Quito del 29 al 30 de octubre de 2019. La visita se realizó en el marco de una solicitud por parte del Gobierno del Ecuador, organizaciones indígenas y diferentes sectores sociales para que Naciones Unidas asistiera en la búsqueda de entendimientos para superar sus diferencias.
 
El Embajador Valdés se reunió con el Presidente Lenín Moreno, miembros del Gobierno y líderes sociales, a quienes felicitó por detener la escalada de la tensión social vivida a principios de octubre mediante una actitud constructiva y voluntad de entablar un diálogo.  El Embajador Valdés instó a las partes a seguir acercando posiciones y evitar posicionamientos que dificulten el diálogo. El objetivo común de todos los actores nacionales debe ser alcanzar soluciones consensuadas que beneficien a todo el país y faciliten la gobernabilidad, el diálogo inclusivo y la prosperidad.
 
Las Naciones Unidas reiteran su disposición a acompañar un proceso de diálogo inclusivo y dirigido por actores nacionales que contribuya al cumplimiento de los objetivos de la Agenda 2030 para el Desarrollo Sostenible.
