Note in response to questions concerning a report on the death of Secretary-General Dag Hammarskjöld

In response to questions on a report by a Commission for Jurists released today on the death of Secretary-General Dag Hammarskjöld, the Spokesperson has the following to say:

Secretary-General Dag Hammarskjöld gave unparalleled service to the United Nations and paid the ultimate price.

Needless to say, the United Nations is among those most concerned in arriving at the whole truth of the circumstances leading to his death in September 1961.

Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon thanks the Commission of Jurists for their work and the Enabling Committee for its initiative in setting up the Commission.

The UN Secretariat will closely study the findings of the Commission's report.
