Under-Secretary-General for Political Affairs meets in Douala, Cameroon, with Prime Minister of the Central African Republic

Jeffrey Feltman, the United Nations Under-Secretary-General for Political Affairs, met today in Douala, Cameroon, with Nicolas Tiangaye, Prime Minister of the Central African Republic.  Under-Secretary-General Feltman underscored Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon's deep concern over the alarming situation regarding security and human rights in the country, and the lack of public order and the rule of law.  In welcoming the Prime Minister's public condemnation of violence and looting, Under-Secretary-General urged the Prime Minister to exercise his leadership in helping to restore calm throughout the country.  He also affirmed to the Prime Minister the support of the United Nations in the implementation of the Libreville accords of January 2013.  The Under-Secretary-General noted that the United Nations will remain engaged with the Central African Republic's regional and international partners to provide humanitarian assistance, as security conditions permit.
