Secretary-General's remarks to press following the Security Council meeting on Afghanistan

Q: Secretary-General, what do you say to Afghans who feel abandoned by the international community?

SG: That the international community needs to come together and to act with one single voice to say that we want an inclusive government in Afghanistan, that we want human rights in general - and women's rights in particular - to be respected.  And we want terrorism not to have any more a safe haven in Afghanistan. And for that we need the unity of the Security Council, the unity of the international community, to be able to speak with one single voice.
