Readout of the Secretary-General’s meeting with H.H. Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, Amir of the State of Qatar

The Secretary-General met today His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, Emir of the State of Qatar. He expressed his gratitude to Qatar for its strong support to the United Nations in many areas. 

He stressed Qatar’s important role in helping the reconstruction of Gaza, and made a request for much-needed further assistance for UNRWA’s programmes for Palestinian refugees.

They discussed a wide range of regional issues, including Syria and Iraq. On Yemen, the Secretary-General asked Qatar to do all it can urge the parties to stop the fighting and resume political negotiations on a peaceful way forward.
