Readout of the Secretary-General’s meeting with H.E. Mr. Muhammad Nawaz Sharif, Prime Minister of Pakistan

The Secretary-General met today with H.E. Mr. Muhammad Nawaz Sharif, Prime Minister of Pakistan.

The Secretary-General thanked Pakistan for its important contributions to United Nations Peacekeeping Operations.

The fight against terrorism and violent extremism was also discussed.

The Secretary-General stressed the necessity for Pakistan and India to continue their peaceful dialogue. He encouraged Pakistan to continue engaging Afghanistan in order to help stabilize the country.

On Myanmar, the Secretary-General underlined the need for fair and inclusive treatment of the Rohingya people.

The Secretary-General emphasized the importance of implementing the Sustainable Development Goals at the national level.
