The Secretary-General met today with H.E. Mr. Faure Essozimna Gnassingbé, President of the Republic of Togo.

The Secretary-General expressed the United Nations’ commitment to accompanying national efforts to consolidate democracy in Togo, as well as towards the implementation of sustainable development goals. He commended Togo’s hosting of the African Union’s Extraordinary Summit on Maritime Security and Development for Africa.

The President and the Secretary-General also exchanged views on political and security developments in the sub-region, including in Burkina Faso and Mali. The Secretary-General expressed appreciation for Togo’s contribution to peacekeeping operations.
