Readout of the Secretary-General's meeting with H.E. Mr. Alassane Ouattara, President of the Republic of Côte d'Ivoire, on the margins of the 66th Session of the General Assembly

The Secretary-General met today, 22 September 2011, with H.E. Mr. Ouattara, President of the Republic of Côte d'Ivoire. They discussed security and other challenges, and the support of the United Nations to address the fragile security situation and cross-border threats. The Secretary-General welcomed the progress made by the Government in the areas of national reconciliation, and preparations for the legislative elections. The Secretary-General and President Ouattara also exchanged views on the humanitarian situation. The Secretary-General expressed his confidence in the capacity of Côte d'Ivoire to recover and rapidly return to peace and prosperity.
