Readout of the Secretary-General's meeting with H.E. Mr. Viktor Yanukovych, President of the Republic of Ukraine, ahead of OSCE Summit

The Secretary-General met today, 30 November 2010, with H.E. Mr. Viktor Yanukovych, President of the Republic of Ukraine. The Secretary-General thanked the President for Ukraine's contribution to UN peace-keeping operations and asked him to consider further possible contributions, notably helicopters for MONUSCO, the UN mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

The Secretary-General and the President discussed Ukraine's planned international conference in April next year to mark the 25th anniversary of the Chernobyl nuclear disaster.

The Secretary-General and the President also discussed Haiti and the situation in Moldova and the prospects for resolving the Transnistria conflict.

The Secretary-General thanked the President for helping to provide a “UN House” to accommodate all UN agencies in Ukraine from next year.
