Readout of the Secretary-General’s meeting with H.E. Shinzo Abe, Prime Minister of Japan

The Secretary-General met today with H.E. Mr. Shinzo Abe, Prime Minister of Japan, on the margins of the General Assembly General Debate.

The Secretary-General expressed appreciation for Japan’s important contribution to all areas of the work of the Organization, in particular the peace operations. The Secretary-General encouraged Japan to ratify the Paris Climate Agreement, which was important for the Agreement to enter into force. The interlocutors also discussed regional security issues, including the situation on the Korean Peninsula.
