Readout of the Secretary-General’s meeting with H. H. Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al Sabah, Amir of the State of Kuwait

The Secretary-General met today with His Highness Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al Sabah, Amir of the State of Kuwait.

The Secretary-General thanked Kuwait for its generous support to the United Nations and its humanitarian efforts in the region, and commended the personal leadership of the Amir in this regard.

On Yemen, the Secretary-General noted that that there could be no military solution to the conflict.  He stressed the gravity of the humanitarian situation and the civilian casualties of the fighting.  

The Secretary-General and His Highness the Amir discussed the need to redouble efforts for a political solution for the fighting in Syria.

They also underlined the importance of implementing the Sustainable Development Goals.
