The Secretary-General met today with Mr. Sebastian Kurz, Minister for Europe, Integration and Foreign Affairs of Austria.

The Secretary-General thanked the Austrian Government for its strong commitment to the work of the United Nations, particularly on issues such as Climate Change, Human Rights Up Front and the Rule of Law. They discussed the November 2014 Second United Nations Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries, to be hosted by Austria in Vienna.

They also discussed the efforts of Austria and other neighbouring countries in support of further democratic and economic consolidation of the Western Balkans region and its European integration.  In that regard, the Foreign Minister informed the Secretary-General of Austria’s intention to host a summit meeting on the region in the spring of 2015.

The Secretary-General also commended Austria’s commitment to international non-proliferation and disarmament efforts.
