Readout of the Secretary-General’s meeting with H.E. Ms. Julie Bishop, Foreign Minister of Australia

The Secretary-General met today with H.E. Ms. Julie Bishop, Foreign Minister of Australia.  

He congratulated Ms. Bishop on her recent appointment as Foreign Minister, following the parliamentary elections of 7 September.  

The Secretary-General and the Foreign Minister discussed issues concerning recent developments in Syria and Egypt, as well as the democratic transition in Fiji and the strengthening of the partnership between the United Nations and the Pacific Islands Forum.  The Secretary-General thanked Australia for its commitment to global peace and security issues and welcomed its recent appointment as President of the United Nations Security Council.
