Readout of the Secretary-General's telephone conversation with Paulo Portas, Foreign Minister of Portugal

The Secretary-General spoke to H.E. Mr. Paulo Portas, Foreign Minister of Portugal, by telephone on the morning of 15 April. He thanked Mr. Portas for his brief about the situation in Guinea-Bissau. The Secretary-General said that he had immediately issued a strong statement condemning the coup and calling for the restoration of constitutional order in Guinea-Bissau.

The Secretary-General said he is in close contact with his Special Representative for Guinea-Bissau who is advising him on the current situation. He added that he would continue to mobilize political pressure to seek a resolution that restores stability and political order to Guinea-Bissau.
