Readout of Secretary-General's meeting with Foreign Minister of Egypt, H.E. Mr. Al-Orabi

The Secretary-General met with the Foreign Minister of Egypt, H.E. Mr. Al-Orabi, on 8 July in Juba. The Secretary-General and the Foreign Minister discussed the situations in Libya and Sudan. The Secretary-General renewed the United Nations' support to the forthcoming elections, which need to be held in a credible and transparent manner that meets the aspirations of the Egyptian people. He also called for the acceleration of judicial procedures against those responsible for human rights violations, including the killing of innocent civilians.

The Secretary-General also called Field Marshall Tantawi while stopping over in Cairo on 8 July. The Secretary-General reiterated his strong support to Egypt in its democratic transition and socio-economic reforms. He also appreciated Egypt's strong engagement with the United Nations on these issues.
