The Secretary-General, on a visit to Germany, met today with H.E. Mr. Frank-Walter Steinmeier, the leader of opposition.

During their meeting, they discussed Egypt, the Middle East peace process, Afghanistan, Sudan, Cote d'Ivoire and Cyprus.

The Secretary-General also met with members of the Committee on Foreign Affairs of the Bundestag, Germany's lower house of parliament.

The Secretary-General outlined his priorities for the year. They discussed UN-German cooperation, UN reform, Security Council reform, Egypt, Sudan, Darfur, Cote d'Ivoire, G20-UN cooperation and developments on the Korean Peninsula.

At both meetings the Secretary-General emphasized his appreciation for Germany's contribution to the UN agenda, and stressed the need for its continued support for the UN's work.
