Secretary-General's press encounter upon arrival at UNHQ
Press events | Kofi Annan, Former Secretary-General
SG: I have indicated quite clearly that this is an internal report which I'll be acting on and I'll be discussing it with my colleagues. It's not a report for publication.
Q: What sort of action do you expect?
SG: I think you will have to leave that to me and my colleagues. It is not for public [inaudible]. We will be able to act fairly shortly. But I'm not in a position to give you details on that.
Q: Sir, do you have any reaction to the report in Le Monde yesterday that the United Nations had blocked an investigation inside Rwanda, and also this affair of the black box.
SG: I was, quite frankly, surprised to see that report and I have asked my people to look into it. I'm not aware that we're holding any black box here and that we did obstruct an investigation. It is our policy always to cooperate with criminal investigations, particularly in a situation where we have had a very keen interest in it. So I really do not understand the basis for the observations which I read in the papers.
Q: Do you have a time frame on Maurice Strong going to North Korea?
SG: He will probably go some time this month or next.
Q: What does he want to accomplish?
SG: He will have continuing discussions with the North Koreans.
