Secretary-General's comment at Mahatma Gandhi Memorial

Press events | Ban Ki-moon, Former Secretary-General

Q: Sir, what are your thoughts at the moment?

SG: I have had the deepest respect and admiration for what Mahatma Gandhi has left to our world citizens.

I have been personally trying to practice what Mahatma Gandhi said in his teachings of the seven social sins. I have been keeping these seven social sins as very important guidelines in carrying out my duties as a public servant while the international community is faced with so many challenges and conflicts. I hope that the world citizens should learn more about what Mahatma Gandhi had practiced himself. He sacrificed himself for world peace through non-violence. My message is that we must learn more from his teachings and philosophical leadership to make this world more prosperous, more peaceful so that everybody can live in equality and justice, free from violence.
