Secretary-General's press encounter upon arrival in Tunisia

Press events | Ban Ki-moon, Former Secretary-General

SG: First of all, it's a great pleasure for me to visit Tunisia. As Secretary-General of the United Nations, this is the first time for me to visit this great country. And I thank President Zine El Abidine Ben Ali for the invitation for me to participate in the international conference on countering terrorism. This is a very important issue in which all of the international community must work together. This conference is, again, in line with the U.N. General Assembly's Resolution on the global strategy on counter-terrorism. I hope that with this international conference, the whole international community, will be able to discuss agreeing on a comprehensive convention on international terrorism. I'm looking forward to having bilateral meetings with President Ben Ali and the Prime Minister [Mohamed Ghannouchi]. And I'm also very happy to see my dear friend Foreign Minister Abdelwahab Abdallah, with whom I have worked a very long time. I'm looking forward to discussions with other leaders who will be participating in this meeting. From here, I'm sure that the whole international community will solidify their resolve and commitment to work against terrorism.
