S/2017/97 – Fourth report of the Secretary-General on the threat posed by ISIL (Da’esh) to international peace and security and the range of United Nations efforts in support of Member States in countering the threat

In adopting its resolution 2253 (2015), the Security Council expressed its determination to address the threat posed to international peace and security by Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL, also known as Da’esh)1 and associated individuals and groups, and emphasized the importance of cutting off its access to funds and preventing it from planning and facilitating attacks. In paragraph 97 of the resolution, the Council requested that I provide an initial strategic-level report, followed by updates every four months thereafter.

Уважаемый г-н Председатель, 17 декабря 2015 г. Совет Безопасности ООН единогласно принял подготовленную по инициативе России и США резолюцию 2253 по борьбе с деятельностью и финансированием ИГИЛ, Джабхат ан-Нусры и связанных с ними террористических организаций. Символично, что первую сессию сегодняшнего мероприятия открывают именно представители России и США. Рассчитываем, что сотрудничество по борьбе с терроризмом, в том числе на территории Сирии, вскоре получит дополнительный весомый импульс.

Feoktistov, Deputy Director of the Department on New Challenges and Threats of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation at the Special Joint Session of the UN Security Council Counter-Terrorism Committee, the UN Security Council ISIL And Al-Qaida Sanctions Committee, the FATF and Other Relevant Multilateral Organizations (New York, December 12, 2016)

Mr. Chairman, On December 17, 2015, the UN Security Council unanimously adopted Resolution 2253 drafted by Russia jointly with the US to prevent the activities and financing of ISIL, Jabhat al-Nusra and affiliated terrorist organizations. Symbolically, it is the representatives of Russia and the US who open the first session of today's event. We hope that the cooperation against terrorism, including in Syria, will soon be given another powerful impetus.
