Open meeting of the Counter-Terrorism Committee on #CTNarratives

In May 2017, the United Nations Security Council adopted resolution 2354, which directs the Counter-Terrorism Committee (CTC), with the support of its Executive Directorate (CTED), to organize at least one open meeting annually to review global developments in countering terrorist narratives. It further requests the Committee and CTED to recommend ways for Member States to enhance their efforts in the field of countering terrorist narratives, and stipulates that all measures taken must comply with Member States’ obligations under international law, including international human rights law, international refugee law, and international humanitarian law.

On 29 May, the Committee will hold an open meeting to encourage Member States to better align their efforts in the field of countering terrorist narratives with the Framework and the guidelines contained in resolution 2354 (2017), including, inter alia, to share information on trends and developments in terrorist narratives, effective measures to counter them, as well as on ways to measure and evaluate the effectiveness of such measures. The open meeting will also reflect Security Council resolutions 2395 and 2396 (2017) on preventing terrorist use of the Internet, and the Council’s recognition of the “Tech Against Terrorism” initiative. Taking place at United Nations headquarters on Tuesday 29 May 2018 in Conference Room 4, from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., the meeting is open to Member and Observer States, members of the media including photographers with valid accreditation, United Nations staff and interns, UN entities, intergovernmental organizations, and specialized agencies, as well as invited guests with a valid UN grounds pass. The event will be webcast at http://webtv.un.org/.

For those not holding a UN grounds pass, please RSVP before 22 May 2018 at noon at https://goo.gl/B7J8Ef.
