On 8 October 2018, the United Nations Security Council Counter-Terrorism Committee (CTC) will hold an open briefing, which will focus on “The nexus between international terrorism and transnational organized crime.” The aims of the open briefing, which is organized in cooperation with the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) and the United Nations Interregional Crime and Justice Research Institute (UNICRI), are to (i) help strengthen the understanding of the nexus as it pertains to criminal activities linked to trafficking in persons committed for the purpose of supporting terrorism, the nexus between drug trafficking and terrorism, and arms trafficking and terrorism; and (ii) promote a discussion of responses.
Taking place at United Nations headquarters on Monday 8 October 2018 in Conference Room 3, from 10:00 a.m., the briefing is open to Member and Observer States, members of the media including photographers with valid accreditation, United Nations staff and interns, UN entities, intergovernmental organizations, and specialized agencies, as well as invited guests with a valid UN grounds pass.
