United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres travelled from New York to Washington, D.C., on Wednesday, 10 May, to attend the Kuwait-America Foundation Annual Gala Dinner, an event he has attended since his days as High Commissioner for Refugees.

United Nations Emergency Relief Coordinator Martin Griffiths has allocated $3 million from the Central Emergency Response Fund to urgently respond to the arrival of Sudanese refugees and others in Chad. In Khartoum, the World Health Organization reports that over 60 per cent of health facilities are closed.

A new report by the Food and Agriculture Organization says that more than one in two preschool-aged children – approximately 372 million children, three quarters who live in South and East Asia, the Pacific and sub-Saharan Africa - suffer from the lack of at least one of three micronutrients; iron, vitamin A or zinc.

Today, the Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs visited Kherson in Ukraine after the Government regained control. In the past month, humanitarian convoys have been bringing to Kherson water, food, medicines, blankets and other essential items, including generators to ensure hospitals and schools continue operating.

The United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in the Central African Republic (MINUSCA) and the country’s Government today signed the United Nations Sustainable Development Cooperation framework 2023-2027 to plan and implement United Nations activities in-country in support of the 2030 Agenda.
