Activities of Secretary-General in Germany, 7-8 July

United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres arrived in Hamburg, Germany, on the morning of Friday, 7 July, from Crans-Montana, Switzerland.

The Secretary-General was in Hamburg to participate in the two-day Group of 20 (G20) Summit.  He took part in the official welcoming of G20 leaders, followed by a working luncheon on the theme “Global Growth and Trade”.

The Secretary-General then met with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan before attending the working session on “Sustainable Development, Climate and Energy”.  He ended his evening by attending a concert at the Elbphilharmonie and a dinner with G20 leaders.

On Saturday morning, 8 July, the Secretary-General participated in an event on women’s entrepreneurship hosted by the United States and the World Bank.  He was then interviewed by Ingo Zamperoni of the German television news programme, Tagethemen, on the ARD network.

The Secretary-General took part in a working session on “Partnership with Africa, Migration and Health”, before meeting with President Moon Jae-in of the Republic of Korea.  His final event at the G20 Summit was a working luncheon on “Digitalization, Women’s Empowerment and Employment”.

In the early evening, the Secretary-General departed Hamburg for Kyiv, Ukraine.
