Exhibition ‘70 Years in Service of Peace and Justice’ Opens at United Nations Headquarters on 24 October

An opening ceremony for an exhibition entitled “70 Years in the Service of Peace and Justice” will be held at 6 p.m. on Monday, 24 October, in the Visitors’ Lobby.  The exhibit is organized by the International Court of Justice.

During the ceremony, remarks will be made by United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon and by Ronny Abraham, President of the International Court of Justice.  Miguel de Serpa Soares, Under-Secretary-General for Legal Affairs and United Nations Legal Counsel, will act as master of ceremonies.

The photo exhibition recounts the history of the International Court of Justice, the principal judicial organ of the United Nations, and makes reference to its predecessor, the Permanent Court of International Justice.  First and foremost, however, the photos and other exhibits on display demonstrate how the International Court of Justice works for the peace and order of the international community.  The exhibition includes examples of judgements and advisory opinions that showcase the Court’s contribution to peaceful resolutions of conflicts within the international community.

The exhibition will be on display until 28 December 2016.
