Condemning Deadly Attack in Mali, Secretary-General Calls for Swift Investigation into Bringing Perpetrators to Justice

The following statement was issued today by the Spokesman for UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon:

The Secretary-General strongly condemns the deadly attack that took place earlier today in Bamako in which five persons were killed and seven injured, including two international experts working for the United Nations.  He expresses his sincere condolences to the families of the victims and wishes a speedy recovery to the injured.

The Secretary-General calls for a swift investigation and urges that those responsible for the attack be brought to justice.  He expresses his appreciation for the prompt response by Malian law enforcement institutions and commends the police of the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in Mali (MINUSMA) for its support to ongoing investigation efforts.
