Secretary-General Appoints Christopher Coleman of United States Deputy Special Representative for United Nations Interim Administration Mission in Kosovo

United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon today announced the appointment of Christopher Coleman of the United States as his Deputy Special Representative for the United Nations Interim Administration Mission in Kosovo (UNMIK).  He succeeds Jennifer Brush of the United States to whom the Secretary-General expresses his gratitude for her dedicated service with UNMIK.

Mr. Coleman brings with him more than 20 years of experience in the United Nations, including in the Department of Political Affairs, the Department of Peacekeeping Operations and the Executive Office of the Secretary-General.

Since 2013, Mr. Coleman has served as Deputy Director of the Africa II Division of the Department of Political Affairs.  Prior to that, he served in other senior posts in the Department of Political Affairs, including Deputy Director of the Africa I Division and Chief of Policy Planning and Mediation.  He also served as Director of the Civilian Capacities Project, as well as in the Executive Office of the Secretary-General.  During his tenure with the Department of Peacekeeping Operations, Mr. Coleman served as Team Leader for Sudan, as well as for the United Nations Mission in Ethiopia and Eritrea.  He was also the Department of Peacekeeping Operations Chief of Policy and Analysis.

Before joining the United Nations, Mr. Coleman worked as an independent consultant on peace and security issues, and served as Director of Conflict Resolution Studies at the International Peace Academy in New York.

Mr. Coleman received a Master of Science in Foreign Service from Georgetown University and a Bachelor of Arts in International Relations from Texas Christian University.  He was a visiting fellow at Brown University and Yale University.

Born in 1958, he is married and has three children.
