On 25 August, the Security Council Committee established pursuant to resolution 2140 (2014) was briefed by Mr. Amer Daoudi, Regional Humanitarian Coordinator for the Yemen Crisis, on his ongoing efforts to implement a United Nations Verification and Inspection Mechanism for Yemen.
In his briefing, Mr. Daoudi explained that the purpose of the Mechanism would be to ensure compliance with the provisions of resolution 2216 (2015) with regard to the targeted arms embargo and to help ensure access of commercial cargo to Yemen, which was essential for restoring the country's economy.
Members of the Committee expressed their support for the Regional Humanitarian Coordinator’s efforts. They welcomed the imminent startup of the Mechanism and engaged in an exchange of views with Mr. Daoudi regarding its functioning.
Members of the Committee agreed that dialogue between the Committee and the Regional Humanitarian Coordinator was useful and that it should continue.
