United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon arrived in Amman, Jordan, from Jerusalem in the late afternoon of Wednesday, 23 July.  This was the fifth leg of his Middle East visit.

At the Royal Palace he met with King Abdullah II ibn Al Hussein of Jordan.

Later, at the Foreign Ministry, he met with Nasser Judeh, Foreign Minister of Jordan, after which both spoke to the media.  He described as an “unacceptable situation” that “every hour, at least one child has been killed during the last two days.”  In his remarks to the press, he addressed the issue of proportionality.

He spoke by phone from Jordan with President Abdel Fattah Al Sisi of Egypt.
