Security Council Press Statement on Attack against African Union-United Nations Hybrid Operation in Darfur

The following Security Council press statement was issued today by Council President María Cristina Perceval (Argentina):

The members of the Security Council condemned in the strongest terms the attack on UNAMID (African Union-United Nations Hybrid Operation in Darfur) peacekeepers in Korma, North Darfur, by a group of unidentified armed men on 16 October 2014, which resulted in the death of three Ethiopian peacekeepers.

The members of the Security Council expressed their condolences to the families of the peacekeepers killed in the attack, as well as to the Government of Ethiopia and to UNAMID.  They called on the Government of Sudan swiftly to investigate the incident and bring the perpetrators to justice.  The members of the Security Council reiterated their full support for UNAMID and called on all parties in Darfur to cooperate fully with the mission.
