Mourning Three Peacekeepers Killed in UNAMID Convoy Attack, Secretary-General

Calls on Sudanese Government to Bring Perpetrators to Justice

The following statement was issued today by the Spokesperson for UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon:

The Secretary-General condemns the attack today by unknown armed men on a convoy of the African Union–United Nations Hybrid Operation in Darfur (UNAMID) in which three UNAMID peacekeepers were killed and one injured.  All were from Senegal.  The Secretary-General offers his condolences to the families and friends of the fallen peacekeepers and expresses his deepest sympathies to the Government of the Republic of Senegal.

All too often UNAMID peacekeepers are attacked and killed in the line of duty, while helping the Sudanese bring peace to Darfur. These attacks are unacceptable.  The Secretary-General calls on the Government of Sudan to bring those responsible to justice.
