First Committee Elects Bureau for Sixty-Seventh General Assembly Session


The General Assembly’s First Committee (Disarmament and International Security) today elected, by acclamation, Desra Percaya ( Indonesia) as Chair of its sixty-seventh session.


Mr. Percaya has been the Permanent Representative of Indonesia to the United Nations since February 2012, prior to which he served as his country’s Deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nations in Geneva.


Also by acclamation today, the Committee elected DovydasŠpokauskas ( Lithuania) and Alexis Aquino ( Peru) as Vice-Chairs, and Knut Langeland ( Norway) as its Rapporteur.  One vacancy for the position of Vice-Chair remained open, pending submission by the Group of African States of a candidate.
