Biographical Note


Miguel Berger of Germany Chair of Fifth Committee

 


Miguel Berger, Deputy Permanent Representative of Germany to the United Nations, was elected Chair of the Fifth Committee (Administrative and Budgetary) on 4 September.  (See Press Release GA/AB/4035)


Mr. Berger has been his country’s Deputy Permanent Representative since July 2010.  Prior to that, he led the Parliament and Cabinet Division of the Foreign Office in Berlin from 2006 until the end of 2009, and the German Representative Office to the Palestinian Authority in Ramallah from 2004 to 2006.


From 2002 to 2004, as Deputy Chief of the Economic Division of his country’s Mission to the United Nations, he was in charge of Fifth Committee issues, among them reform of the United Nations, its management and budget.


Prior to that, he served as Deputy Chief of the Parliament and Cabinet Division in Bonn and Berlin.  In 1993, he became responsible for the press and domestic policy at the German mission in Mexico City, after serving as an Officer for Issues of the German Minority at his country’s Embassy in Bucharest in 1990. 


Mr. Berger first joined the Foreign Office in 1988.


He is married and has one daughter.
