Activities of Secretary-General in Oman, 18-20 January

United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, accompanied by Madam Ban Soon‑taek, arrived in Muscat, Oman, during the night of 18 January.

On Wednesday morning, he visited the Ancient Treasure Ships and Great Oman Voyage Exhibition, which was organized by the National Geographic Society.  Soon after that, he visited the Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque, which is associated with the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations initiative.

After a meeting with Sayyid Fahd bin Mahmoud al Said, Oman’s Deputy Prime Minister for the Council of Ministers of State, the Secretary-General met a group of young Omani diplomats at the Diplomatic Club in Muscat.  That was followed by an audience with the Ruler of Oman, His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said.  Later, the Secretary-General spoke to United Nations staff working in the country.

That evening, Mr. Ban and his wife were the guests of Omar Al-Zawawi, Adviser of the Sultan for External Affairs. That concluded the visit, and the delegation left that evening for New York, where they arrived early on 20 January.
