Secretary-General Congratulates President of Kyrgyzstan on Inauguration

 

The following statement was issued on 1 December by the Spokesperson for UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon:

The Secretary-General extends his congratulations to Almazbek Atambaev upon his inauguration as President of the Kyrgyz Republic.  He encourages the new leadership of the country to continue pursuing a policy of national dialogue and reconciliation.  The Secretary-General wishes to assure the Government and people of Kyrgyzstan of the continued support of the United Nations.

The Secretary-General commends former President Roza Otunbaeva for her important role over the last 18 months in promoting a stable and democratic Kyrgyzstan.
