New Name for Security Council Committee Established

Pursuant to Resolution 1267 (1999)

On 30 June 2011, the Security Council decided to change the name of its Committee established pursuant to resolution 1267 (1999).  The new name of the Committee is:  “The Security Council Committee pursuant to resolutions 1267 (1999) and 1989 (2011) concerning Al-Qaida and associated individuals and entities”.

The Committee notes that the change to its name reflects the revised mandate accorded to the Committee with the adoption of Security Council resolution 1989 (2011).  In connection with this name change, the Committee has agreed that it may also be referred to in shortened form as:  “The Al-Qaida Sanctions Committee”.

The Committee notes that entries formerly contained in those sections of the Consolidated List related to the Taliban (section A “Individuals associated with the Taliban”) as of 17 June 2011 are now included in the list of individuals and entities maintained by the Security Council Committee established pursuant to resolution 1988 (2011), and are subject to the measures set forth in paragraph 1 of the same resolution.

The Committee further recalls that, in accordance with resolution 1989 (2011), it will transmit to the Committee established pursuant to resolution 1988 (2011) all matters relevant to individuals and entities associated with the Taliban that were pending before the Committee as of 17 June 2011, so that the Committee established pursuant to resolution 1988 (2011) can consider those matters in accordance with resolution 1988 (2011).
