Security Council Press Statement on Yemen

 


The following Security Council press statement was issued today by Council President Noël Nelson Messone ( Gabon):


On 24 June, the members of the Security Council heard a briefing from Jamal Benomar, Special Adviser on Yemen, on the situation in Yemen.


The members of the Security Council expressed their grave concern at the deteriorating security and humanitarian situation in Yemen.  They urged all the parties to show maximum restraint and to engage in an inclusive political dialogue.


The members of the Security Council welcomed the ongoing mediation efforts of the Gulf Cooperation Council to help the parties find agreement on a way forward.


The members of the Security Council welcomed the announcement of the mission of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) that will visit Yemen from 27 June to 6 July.


The members of the Security Council also welcomed the continuing engagement of the Secretary-General, working closely with Gulf Cooperation Council partners, and looked forward to further updates on the situation in Yemen from Special Adviser Benomar.
