Security Council Press Statement on Doha Document for Peace in Darfur

 


The following Security Council press statement on the Doha Document for Peace in Darfur was issued today by Council President Noël Nelson Messone (Gabon):


The members of the Security Council held an informative interactive dialogue with Ahmed bin Abdulla Al-Mahmoud, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs of the State of Qatar, and Djibril Bassolé, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Regional Co-operation of Burkina Faso, having received the Doha Document for Peace in Darfur.


The members of the Security Council welcomed the outcome of the 31 May All Darfur Stakeholder Conference as a significant step forward, and as the basis for achieving a comprehensive and inclusive peace in Darfur.


The members of the Security Council called on all parties urgently to resolve their differences, and called on them to make every effort to reach a permanent ceasefire and a comprehensive peace agreement as soon as possible, on the basis of the Doha Document for Peace in Darfur.


The members of the Security Council expressed their gratitude to His Highness Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani, Emir of the State of Qatar, for the support of his Government to the Doha Peace Process and notes that the Government of Qatar remains ready to continue to assist, and to Mr. Al-Mahmoud and Mr. Bassolé for their work in support of peace in Darfur.
