Secretary-General Appoints Corinne Momal-Vanian of France as Director


of United Nations Information Service in Geneva

 


United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has appointed Corinne Momal-Vanian as the Director of the United Nations Information Service in Geneva.  She will take up her duties on 1 December.


Ms. Momal-Vanian, a national of France, has served as Senior Political Adviser in the Office of the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva (UNOG) since 2007.  Prior to joining UNOG, Ms. Momal-Vanian served as Special Assistant to the United Nations Secretary-General in the Executive Office of the Secretary-General in New York, from 2005 to 2006.  Between 1999 and 2005, she was a Senior Research Officer and Officer-in-Charge at the Joint Inspection Unit (JIU) of the United Nations system in Geneva.


From 1995 to 1999, Ms. Momal-Vanian occupied the following positions at the Executive Office of the Secretary-General in New York:  Special Assistant to the Deputy Secretary-General; External Relations Officer; and Special Assistant to the Special Adviser to the Secretary-General.


From 1992 to 1994, Ms. Momal-Vanian served as Public Information Officer at the Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific in Bangkok.  Between 1990 and 1992, she was the Political Affairs Officer at the Department of Political and Security Council Affairs in New York.  Prior to this assignment, from 1987 to 1990, she was Associate Social Affairs Officer for the Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia, in Baghdad.


Ms. Momal-Vanian has a master’s degree in business administration from the Hautes Etudes Commerciales‑‑ HEC Graduate School of Management, Paris (1984) and an advanced degree in international relations from the Institut Etudes Politiques (Sciences Po) de Paris (1986).  Born on 30 August 1963, Ms. Momal-Vanian is married with two children.
