New Permanent Representative of Armenia Presents Credentials

The new Permanent Representative of Armenia to the United Nations, Garen A. Nazarian, presented his credentials to UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon today.


Prior to his appointment, Mr. Nazarian was Ambassador to Iran from 2005 and Adviser to the Minister for Foreign Affairs between 2002 and 2005, having served as Permanent Representative to the United Nations and Other International Organizations in Geneva, Switzerland, from 1996.


Mr. Nazarian was Chief of Cabinet to the Minister for Foreign Affairs from 1994 to 1996.  Having joined the Foreign Ministry in 1991, he worked in its Military-Political Department until 1992, when he was posted to the Russian Federation until 1994.


He received a master’s degree in oriental studies from Yerevan State University in Armenia, and later earned a Master’s degree in foreign policy studies from the Diplomatic Academy of Moscow.


Born in Yerevan in 1966, Mr. Nazarian is married and has two children.
