Secretary-General condemns ‘reprehensible’ string of bombings

in India targeting civilians

The following statement was issued today by the Spokesperson for UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon:

The Secretary-General is deeply concerned about the string of bombings in a number of cities in India in recent weeks targeting places of high civilian concentration.  The latest, today’s blast in a market in Delhi, has reportedly killed a 13-year-old boy and injured many others.

The Secretary-General strongly condemns these reprehensible acts that have caused the death and injury of many civilians and calls for the perpetrators to be brought to justice.  The Secretary-General reiterates his consistent position that no cause or grievance can justify the resort to terrorism.

The Secretary-General conveys his sympathies to the families of those killed and injured, as well as to the Government and people of India.
