Biographical Note


New permanent representative of SAUDI ARABIA presents credentials

The new Permanent Representative of Saudi Arabia to the United Nations, Khalid Abdalrazaq Al-Nafisee, presented his credentials today to UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon.


Before his appointment, Mr. Al-Nafisee worked for many years at Saudi Aramco, the State-owned national oil company of Saudi Arabia.  Most recently, he served as Aramco’s Vice-President of Abqaiq Plants, Power and Pipelines, from 2001 to 2008, and previously as President of Saudi Petroleum International Inc., from 1990 to 1992.  He has also worked at Aramco as Manager of RT Terminal Operations/Maintenance, as Superintendent of Operations, and as an Engineer at Operations Engineering.


Before joining Aramco in 1977, Mr. Al-Nafisee worked as a Senior Chemical Engineer at C.F. Braun Company, an engineering firm in California, and served with the Saudi Army Corps of Engineers, as a First Lieutenant Engineer, between 1973 and 1974.


Mr. Al-Nafisee received his degree in chemical engineering from the University of Arizona, in 1973, and completed the Columbia University programme for managing the enterprise in 1985.


Born in Riyadh in 1948, he is married with three children.
