SECRETARY-GENERAL APPOINTS KEVIN M. KENNEDY AS DEPUTY SPECIAL COORDINATOR


FOR MIDDLE EAST PEACE PROCESS

 


United Nations Secretary-General Kofi Annan announced today his decision to appoint Kevin M. Kennedy as Deputy Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process, at the level of Assistant Secretary-General.  In this capacity, Mr. Kennedy will also serve as United Nations coordinator for humanitarian and development activities in the Occupied Palestinian Territory.


Mr. Kennedy currently serves as Director of the Coordination and Response Division in the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, where he has spent the last 13 years of his career.  He also held senior humanitarian positions in the Sudan, Iraq, the Balkans, East Timor [Timor-Leste] and Somalia.


An American and Irish national, Mr. Kennedy was born in 1947.
