FOURTH COMMITTEE DEFERS ACTION ON 10 DRAFT RESOLUTIONS UNTIL 28 NOVEMBER

The Fourth Committee (Special Political and Decolonization) decided this morning to postpone action on 10 outstanding resolutions until Tuesday, 28 November.

That decision was taken at the request of the Permanent Observer for Palestine, so that negotiations with interested parties could continue.  Of the 10 outstanding resolutions, four dealt with the work of United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) and six addressed the report of the Special Committee to Investigate Israeli Practices Affecting the Human Rights of the Palestinian People and Other Arabs in the Occupied Territories.  Those texts are contained in documents A/C.4/61/L.9-18.

Finland’s representative, speaking on behalf of the European Union, supported the Palestinian request.

The Fourth Committee will meet again on Tuesday 28 November, at a time to be announced, to take action on outstanding draft resolutions and conclude its work for the sixty-first session.
