Biographical Note


NEW PERMANENT REPRESENTATIVE OF BAHAMAS PRESENTS CREDENTIALS

Paulette A. Bethel, the new Permanent Representative of the Bahamas to the United Nations, presented her credentials today to Secretary-General Kofi Annan.


Prior to her current appointment, Ms. Bethel served as Risk Management/Compliance Manager at Cardinal International in Nassau, from 2000 to 2003.  From 1998 to 2000, she was the Vice-President for Administration and Client Relations at Montague Securities International.


Ms. Bethel also held the position of Director of the Department of Fellowships at the Organization of American States (OAS), from 1994 to 1997. Before that, from 1983 to 1994, she served as Deputy Chief of Mission, first at the Permanent Mission of the Bahamas to the United Nations in New York, and then at the Bahamian Embassy and Permanent Mission to the OAS in Washington, D.C.


Holding a doctoral degree in sociology from the University of Massachusetts, Ms. Bethel also earned a master’s degree in sociology at Howard University and a bachelor’s degree in the same field at the University of Toronto.
