EXHIBIT COMMEMORATING 100 YEARS OF NOBEL PEACE PRIZE TO OPEN MONDAY, 4 MARCH

Secretary-General Kofi Annan and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Norway, Jan Petersen, will open "The Nobel Peace Prize:  1901-2001, a Centennial exhibition" at United Nations Headquarters on Monday, 4 March 2002.  The opening ceremony will begin at 6 p.m. in the Visitors' Lobby.  Guests are requested to enter from 1st Avenue and 46th Street.

The exhibit, which has been put together by the Royal Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in cooperation with the Norwegian Nobel Institute, Norwegian Museum of Cultural History and the United Nations Department of Public Information, celebrates the work of a diverse group of Nobel Laureates, including the current Nobel Peace Prize Laureates, the United Nations and Secretary-General Kofi Annan.  The event coincides with the Norwegian Presidency of the Security Council in March 2002.

The exhibit contains four sections:  a presentation of selected Nobel Laureates from 1901 to 2001; "Portraits of Peace" -- photographic portraits of Nobel Laureates by French photographer Micheline Pelletier; Artist portfolio "Art for Freedom", 17 of Norway's most renowned contemporary artists (this collection is presented every year by "Worldview Rights" to the Nobel Peace Prize Laureates); and the Nobel Prize 2001.
