PRESS STATEMENT ON DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC OF CONGO

BY SECURITY COUNCIL PRESIDENT

Following is today’s press statement on illegal exploitation of the natural resources of the Democratic Republic of the Congo by the President of the Security Council, Mignonette Patricia Durrant (Jamaica):

Members of the Security Council were briefed by Ambassador Mahmoud Kassem, Chairman of the Panel of Experts on the Illegal Exploitation of Natural Resources and other forms of Wealth in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

Members of the Council had a useful exchange with Ambassador Kassem on the findings of the report and expressed appreciation to Ambassador Kassem and the members of the panel for their report.

Members of the Council undertook to have further discussions on the recommendations contained in the report.
